Don’t even think about punching one of these guys
You just did before I said this didn’t you?

Taming & KO   2 days ago

They should update ark to be more accurate because carbonemys actually ate meat in real life unlike modern turtles.

6 points   Utility   4 days ago

Hello! if you are not level 10 and you have already tamed one of these, I suggest raiding a beaver dam! Just be careful.

18 points   Utility   10 days ago

I just love them and they dont drown when in water taming

2 points   Utility   3 days ago

These guys are the best at getting karitan if you dont want to look for one to kill just simply tame 2 of these guys the opposite gender and for the one you dont need to breed with simply kill it like the ovis for getting mutton. But this is for keritian. Sorry for bad English.

5 points   Utility   4 days ago

if your trying to make a saddle and need cementing paste, go to a beaver dam, just be sure you have a get away plan or a weapon 🙂

64 points   Encountering   Apr 1, 2020

These guys are big turtles. When you hit it there go nuts on you. When I was a……noon I thought they run when you hit them so I hit one.I was like»I’m goanna wreck» your face and he was like»oh no you don’t «.And it killed me.

67 points   Taming & KO   Mar 17, 2020

If you are going to tame one of these be on ahigh place gat loys of rocks and slingshot it, they’ll kill you if your where they can reach you. These things can pack a punch and tank alot of DMG be careful when taming them! And you need berries to tame them

42 points   Taming & KO   Apr 3, 2020

1. Find one
2. Tranq it ( they are easy to outrun)
3. Give berries (best are mojo)
4.wait till tame

93 points   Encountering   Feb 20, 2020

This is an awful animal to underestimate. When I first played the game, I thought I could kill one for easy meat and resources. The douche took 6 spears to the face, broke my leg, and speed-walked after me as I limped away. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE.

Taming[edit | edit source]

Note: Non-magical Sleepy Arrows fired from a bow or crossbow deliver extra torpor over time for 5 seconds after impact. Only two instances of this effect can be in effect at once — a third arrow hit before the effect has fully resolved will result in potential torpor being wasted. For maximum efficiency, time your shots so that they land 5 seconds apart. The numbers given here are assuming you do so.

For passive tames, there is a long wait between the first and second feedings as the creature eats, after which it follows the feeding intervals listed. These feeding intervals are estimates — the actual interval will vary per-creature based on random chance.

Level 1 Feeding Interval Time

Don’t even think about punching one of these guys
You just did before I said this didn’t you?

They should update ark to be more accurate because carbonemys actually ate meat in real life unlike modern turtles.

Hello! if you are not level 10 and you have already tamed one of these, I suggest raiding a beaver dam!

Notes/Trivia[edit | edit source]

For information pertaining specifically to the real-world Carbonemys, see the relevant Wikipedia article

  • Carbonemys is Greek for «Coal Turtle».
  • If you want to kill Carbonemys in the early levels (because they grant great amounts of Exp), prepare some spears, and hit it while you’re moving backward, as wild Carbonemys’s sprint is even slower than you moving backward, so stabbing it repeatedly till it die, also work on medium and high leveled Carbonemys as well.
  • It’s possible that Carbonemys (like all extinct and living turtles) may not actually be true reptiles. This depends on if turtles are anapsids, which have no holes (temporal fenestra) in the sides of their skulls, or diapsids, which have two holes in the sides of their skulls like all true reptiles. This is a point of evolution heavily debated among evolutionary scientists and paleontologists.
  • The real Carbonemys and Titanoboa were contemporaries. They both lived in the jungle rivers of what is now Colombia 60 million years ago in swamp environments. A more realistic depiction of Carbonemys would be to see them in the Writhing Swamps in large numbers. They’re not the strongest herbivores but it would still result in great conflict with the swamp’s predators.
  • When mounted the player model grows to a VERY large size to «fit» the turtle’s saddle, depending on the original player model, a player could double its size while mounted.
  • The real Carbonemys was actually a giant species of side-neck turtle reaching the size of a small car. They were also believed to be carnivorous by scientists, using their beaks to crush bones, shells, and armour from small creatures.
  • In earlier versions of the game, it was possible to stand on a wild Carbonemys that was crossing a river to avoid getting bitten to death by Megapiranhas, as a bug caused Carbonemys to go unnoticed by them.
  • Carbonemys are one of the few wild dinos that can be «ridden» by jumping on their backs.
  • Real turtles breathe air and hold their breath underwater, however Ark’s Carbonemys doesn’t need oxygen.
  • Real turtles are social animals that live in a group called a bale, Ark’s Carbonemys is mostly seen on it’s own but can be seen with other Carbonemys.
  • Despite being a turtle it’s incapable of retracting its limbs into its shell like the Doedicurus can.
  • Real life Carbonemys might have just a normal smooth giant shell just like other turtles and not kinda spiky like on Ark.
